thrifty jeans tip TOP TIP 1 – Childrens jeans too short but fit at the waist? Cut them down to make trendy knee length jean shorts. Simple. (Granny Andrea)

thrifty sauce tip TOP TIP 2 – Put a small amount of vinegar into a sauce bottle at the end, shake well to make sure you use up all the sauce left in. (Granny Wendy)

tap water tip TOP TIP 3 – When washing dishes (and therefore running the hot tap), always have a pan handy to collect any cold/tepid water before it runs hot. The cold water can be used for watering plants. (Granny Doreen)

thrifty toilet roll tip TOP TIP 4 – Pack junk mail into the empty cardboard toilet roll tubes and use them as firelighters. (Granny Jennifer)

thrifty cooking tip

TOP TIP 5 – Turn off oven 10 minutes earlier & food will carry on cooking. (Granny Wendy again)

thrifty crayon cleaning tip TOP TIP 6 – Neat washing up liquid to remove children crayon marks on fabric. (Granny S Tennant – I think she’s a posh granny!)

Some good ones here, no? These tips were all entered into Yorkshire Water’s competition to find Yorkshire’s Thriftiest Granny. Visit Yorkshire Water’s website to read the full list of tips. @mhairi I love tip 5 too! Although I’m also quite partial to the bog roll tip, which I think is very canny indeed…
