Coupon Club, 11/03/14: Tetley, Starbucks & train tickets

Welcome to a new feature here on the Miss Thrifty blog: my weekly Coupon Club!

I recently realised that although I’m signed up to lots of coupon-related Facebook groups and mailing lists and so on, I often feel like I am drowning in a sea of… rubbish. There are some good vouchers out there, but they are lost in a sea of discount codes for unfamiliar teen clothing chains, and vouchers for a few pence off packets of greasy, processed food. I began picking out the choicest coupons, then realised that if I was fed up with the sea of tat, I might not be the only one…

So without further ado, here are my picks for the week:

1. Rail travel: £16 voucher for £8 at redspottedhanky.com.This £8 deal nets you a £12 voucher to spend on train tickets in the UK. If you haven’t come across it before, redspottedhanky.com is a train ticket website specialising in cheap advance fares, with no booking fees. The voucher is available from Amazon Local, which is Amazon’s version of Groupon. You can sign in with your regular Amazon account, so no need to register. Your voucher must be redeemed and used to book tickets before 30 June 2014. Tickets can be purchased for travel up to 12 weeks in advance, meaning that travel is possible up to 22nd September should you book on the 30th June 2014. Note that it can take up to 72 hours for the £16 voucher to be uploaded to your redspottedhanky.com account.

2. Vanilla Spiced Latte at Starbucks: Buy One Get One Free. This coupon gets you one free Vanilla Spiced Latte when you buy another one at full price. Be quick though: this voucher expires tomorrow, Wednesday 12 March 2014. This voucher is brought to you by Living Social: you’ll have to register to get it, but the voucher itself is free.

3. 50p off Tetley Tea. Found at Savoo. Claim your voucher before 24 March 2014, then print and redeem your coupon in-store by 31 March 14 at any major retailer. Can be used against any pack size of Tetley Teabags. At the time of writing, Tesco is the supermarket with the cheapest Tetley teabags: £1 for 40 bags. So with this coupon, you can get those 40 teabags for half the price.

4. £11 off Oral B Electric Toothbrush Heads at Tesco. I have a hunch: if you use an electric toothbrush, it’s probably an Oral B one. Why? Well, they are (relatively) cheap and reliable. And all the supermarkets sell them. There is one bummer, however: the cost of the replacement heads. Tesco currently has a half-price offer on a pack of five Oral B Precision Clean Refill Heads: reduced from £18.38 (ouch) to £9.19. However you can go one better if you belong to Supersavvyme, the Proctor & Gamble website stuffed with coupons and offers. There, you can print a coupon for an extra £2 off the pack of replacement heads, reducing the price to £7.19. In other words, you can get more than £11 off the RRP. The coupon can be redeemed online, or printed off and redeemed in-store.

P.S. Does the idea of a weekly Coupon Club float your boat? If so, what would you like to see more of? Please let me know. 🙂

Thank you for this – I love the idea of a weekly coupon club!
I agree that there’s so much rubbish out there, it can be difficult to filter through and find the good ones.

I too think it’s a great idea to have a weekly coupon club! 🙂
I refuse to sign up to coupon sites due to the amount of offers you get and the lack of personalisation options.
I’ve forwarded the train travel one on to a colleague who is planning a trip to London with her son. Gutted I’m no where near a Starbucks though! Haha.
Thank you!

You are right about there being a ton of rubbish on a lot of those coupon groups. The deals you’ve mentioned here are great. I’ll be using that Starbucks one today! Thanks so much.

Thanks for that Red Spotted Hanky train ticket tip. Just bought the voucher and combined with my friends and family rail card (bought with a friend who lives near by to split the price and we share it) means I can take my plane mad son to the free Aviation and Mosi museums in Manchester in the Easter hols for just £11.
