Six top tips from Yorkshire’s thriftiest grannies
TOP TIP 1 – Childrens jeans too short but fit at the waist? Cut them down to make trendy knee length jean shorts. Simple. (Granny Andrea)
TOP TIP 2 – Put a small amount of vinegar into a sauce bottle at the end, shake well to make sure you use up all the sauce left in. (Granny Wendy)
TOP TIP 3 – When washing dishes (and therefore running the hot tap), always have a pan handy to collect any cold/tepid water before it runs hot. The cold water can be used for watering plants. (Granny Doreen)
TOP TIP 4 – Pack junk mail into the empty cardboard toilet roll tubes and use them as firelighters. (Granny Jennifer)
TOP TIP 5 – Turn off oven 10 minutes earlier & food will carry on cooking. (Granny Wendy again)
TOP TIP 6 – Neat washing up liquid to remove children crayon marks on fabric. (Granny S Tennant – I think she’s a posh granny!)

@mhairi I love tip 5 too! Although I’m also quite partial to the bog roll tip, which I think is very canny indeed…
