Miss Thrifty

Pixi’s Rose Satin Oil is one of my favourite fragrances. I got a rollerball bottle of the stuff about four years ago, from a beauty journalist. I kept that little bottle in my bag and mourned its loss when it was all gone. It is difficult to describe why one perfume smells better than another one, isn’t it? Suffice to say that this one is made from crushed rose petals, lasts forever and was regularly borrowed by colleagues.

I’m not keen on many modern perfumes: I really can’t be bothered to spend £40 or more or some wiggly glass bottle with a celebrity endorsement, filled with strange chemicals and smelling of sweet shops. Call me old-fashioned.

Pixi is a small, luxury cosmetics brand,  so I didn’t replace the empty bottle after it became clear that I couldn’t squeeze another drop out of it, because I presumed that it would be too expensive.

Turns out I was wrong. It’s £12.00 for a 10ml bottle. That works out at very good value, when you consider that the first bottle lasted for more than two years. It’s a perfumed oil: think little dabs rather than full on drenching.

There is a Pixi shop on Carnaby Street in London, but this fragrance doesn’t appear to be particularly easy to find, if you’re outside the capital. The online lifestyle emporium ASOS carries some of the Pixi make-up lines, but not the fragrances. However the Satin Rose Oil is available to buy via Pixi’s website, for £12.00 plus £2.50 postage. As Smellovision hasn’t yet been invented, it is difficult to shop for fragrance online, but I guess that either you like the smell of roses or you don’t! Satin Fig Oil and Satin Mimosa Oil are also available.
