make your own toilet cleanerAfter posting about N’s super-glam and ladylike flat in Chelsea, I had to bring the tone down, didn’t I? I couldn’t resist…

It’s so easy to make your own toilet cleaner that, when I received my latest delivery of household cleaning goodies from Summer Naturals, I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t shared this one before.

Also, perhaps I have bogs on the brain but I have recently come across some weird and wonderful homespun toilet cleaning tips, which have ranged from glugging cola down the bowl to popping a couple of Alka-Seltzer tablets in there. (I don’t think the first will do the bathroom enamel any good. As for the second: Alka-Seltzer works out to be a relatively expensive cleaning method!)

So here is my toilet cleaner of choice.

You will need:

white vinegar

White vinegar

bicarbonate of soda

Bicarbonate of soda

toilet bowl cleaner

An empty bottle

If you don’t have an empty bog cleaner bottle, an empty spray bottle will do.

Also useful:
- A knife or something sharp, for popping the lid off the empty bottle.
- A funnel, for getting the ingredients in there without making a mess.

To make your own toilet cleaner, add the two ingredients to the bottle in the following quantities:

1 cup of vinegar
1/4 cup of bicarbonate of soda

Squirt, then let it sit for a while – just as you would with the gloopy toilet cleaner from the supermarket – and scrub. Done!
