Wonderful stuff!

I once read a great book, which said find out what colours suit you. Choose a small range from within those, which also go together.

Find out what clothing types shapes suit your bodyshape - Trinny & Susannah plus Gok Wan are great for that sort of advice.

Don't shop on impulse! Shope for gaps in your wardrobe.

Ignore fashion and shop for what suits you - ebay is much better for that kind of shopping than are stores, in which the focus is on short-term fashion in colours and shapes.

I now have a great capsule wardrobe - ie a few pieces, which all go together - I can get dressed in 5 mins without stress!

If it's raining outside, I am more likely to cook a cake, sort out a cupboard or do crafting with the children. Although admirable, this seems a little ocd to me and I won't be partaking. In keeping with thriftiness, I only buy from charity shops, clothes swapping or car booties so don't have the same problem.
