Furoshiki: a neat Christmas wrapping idea
I’m thinking about trying out Furoshiki gift wrapping this year. It’s simple (well, the finished results look simple), pretty and the wrapping can be recycled. You use squares of fabric, rather than spangly paper and ribbons. Check it out:

Japan’s Ministry of the Environment has kindly provided a Furoshiki instruction sheet, with wrapping instructions for a variety of different-shaped gifts.
If my efforts come up trumps, I’ll post the photos. If I end up with pouchy knapsnack-style confections, let us never speak of this again…

This is incredible!! I really wanted to banish wrapping paper this year and decided everyone would receive their gift in a hand printed canvas tote bag. However, I’ve done way less of those than I’d hoped to have done so I’m sure some wrapping paper will come out somewhere!

Hello Miss Thrifty! Would love to see how your furoshiki-ing went. My sister and I are big furoshiki fans – so much so that we’ve set up our own blog, dedicated to these fantastically versatile fabric squares and are making our own furoshiki. It’s early days yet but we love some feedback … and new converts to the furoshiki way!
